World Rivers Day 2023 : : a brief history

In 2005, the United Nations launched the Water for Life Decade to help create a greater awareness of the need to better care for our water resources. Following this, the establishment of World Rivers Day was in response to a proposal initiated by internationally renowned river advocate, Mark Angelo.

World Rivers Day 2023 - 24th September 11am-1pm.

A 'Talking Walk' event for the Shute Festival 2023, with the River Lim Action Group, Vicki Elcoate, Paul Butter, Rob Thomas and artists Eva Fahle-Clouts and David Rogers.

The Action Group and members of the public walked along the river discussing it's ecology and the campaign to clean it up.

'Secrets of the Stour' 2022 by Adrian Newton aka nemeton

A recording of a sound installation, which was developed in collaboration with Wimborne Community Theatre as part of their 'Secrets of the Stour' performance. This was a site-specific theatre piece that celebrated the River Stour, Dorset, and was presented in July 2022. The installation featured stories, songs, poems and other perspectives about the river contributed by local people, together with the sounds of wildlife associated with the river. These sounds were broadcast from a series of concealed loudspeakers that were placed along the riverbank. This recording was made by walking along the sound trail, and recording the installation on a pair of binaural earpiece microphones.
